Charlie

Charlie Mae is our "first born", affectionately referred to as our dogger. We adopted her from the Humane Society in March of 2009, about 5 months after we got married. I was supposed to just go "look" at the dogs that day but DH should have known better. Needless to say about a week later, once we were approved for adoption, we brought home a Boxer/Shar Pei named Charlie :)
Charlie came with a story and a very sad past (at our best guess) She was a stray that was picked up and taken to the pound, unfortunately the pound here is a kill shelter and Charlie was put on the "back row" after being there too long and the pound needing more room for more dogs. So angels known as Fairfield County Area Humane Society swooped down and saved her, and a  few days later, Kris and I came in and rescued her permanently. After many visits with vet, it has been determined that Charlie was definitely an abuse case judging by her actions to certain movements and to certain people, specifically men. It is also a suspicion that at some point in her life, she was put in a trash bag or some sort of plastic bag as the sound of any bag terrifies her and sends her running. Sad story, but a true one. But that dog now is long gone, she is a spoiled, rotten, furry, bundle of joy. She loves her family just as much her family loves her. It's a little embarrassing to admit but I think we often forget she's a "dog" and treat her a little too human well :) It took her some time to warm up to Alex, there was a little jealousy at first but the older he gets the more she likes him. He plays with her throwing the ball and chasing her through the house. When we come home now he is the first person she runs too. I tell Kris all the time that she was a good idea, one that we will always be grateful for.

We were supposed to rescue her, but she ended up rescuing us :)
