The Lion in the Church

As far as weather goes, we hit the jackpot for our Trick or Treat this year. With all the snow and rain and cold temps hitting this week, I am grateful our city's strange habit of holding Trick or Treat an entire week before Halloween actually happens. It was a beautiful 75 degrees which is almost unheard of for the popular night. Alex didn't even get to wear his costume in it's entirety, he wore jean shorts as the lower half of his lion costume, not to worry though, he was still adorable.

All the beautiful left on a jet plane when "Sandy" announced her arrival and it's been cold and wet ever since. On that note I want to say I am praying and keeping all my East Coast friends and family in my thoughts, stay safe and stay warm!

This past weekend our church held it's 2nd annual Halloween Carnival. It's a wonderful event that is free and open to the public. Kids, and parents if they want come in costume and get to walk through the "haunted" trick or treat trail, play games and have fun in the bounce house. They have spider web cotton candy and halloweenies too for when the goblin's appetite picks up from all the fun. It is a great event and I look forward to it every year with Alex and my nephew Logan.

It was an indoor event so Alex got to wear his full costume, yay! I loved his little lion costume and I loved it even more when Alex would "roooooaaarrr." I wasn't sure how Alex would react to everything going on inside, I didn't know if it would scare or overwhelm him. But all fears I may have had going in changed when his giggles and excitement started. The Trick or Treat trail, well, that wasn't exactly something he enjoyed. I think the creepy music and dark rooms with flashing lights freaked him out a little bit. He wanted to be held most of the time and he dug his little fingernails into daddy's shoulder.

But, once we were through the trail it was time for the bounce house. The planner at church is a genius in that he had a smaller bounce house designated for just the little ones. Much safer and Alex actually got to enjoy it and we got to relax a little without worrying about all the big kids "not seeing" the little ones underneath of them. This part of the evening, he LOVED! Once he figured out he could get in and out of the bounce house himself it was all she wrote. He'd climb in, jump around, climb out. He'd make a lap around the lobby and climb back in and start the cycle all over again, giggling the whole time. Oh it was fantastic!

And now a little bit of a back story to what just might be the best picture of the night. The multi-purpose room in the church building was full of GIANT inflatables  including a ginormous inflatable slide. Seeing how Alex is a little young to really get the concept of climbing up and sliding down on his own Kris was super excited to assist. I was, like any mom would want to do, standing at the bottom with my camera ready to capture Alex's reaction as he slid down in daddy's lap. But it turns out reaction captured was not on my little Lion's face but on my husband's.

Now, if you're thinking it looks like Kris just got the mother of all "frontal" wedgies on his way down the ginormous inflatable slide, it is because he in fact did, just get the mother of all "frontal" wedgies on his way down the ginormous inflatable slide.
Haha! Priceless!

  1. That looks like it was lots of fun (though, maybe not the slide for your husband lol!). What a cute little lion Alex is!
