Building Blocks : A Great Learning Tool

Note: This blog is not a review. I was not asked to write or review this exact product and have received nothing in exchange for my notes or my comments.

A couple weeks ago, my mom bought Alex a set of Melissa & Doug Alphabet Stacking Nesting Blocks. I personally thought that he was still a little young, that short of maybe throwing them, he would have no clue what to do with them. I was wrong. Right off the bat he loved them. Mostly knocking them over but still loved them. My mom and I would stack them up and he would drop whatever he was doing and come "running" over to knock them over and giggle. Cuteness?!

Took less than a week for him to learn even more from them. He was sitting by his little toy nook playing with his blocks when I noticed he was trying to stack them himself. He was concentrating so hard his little hand was shaking but he was doing such a good job. Didn't take long for him to graduate up, he's now using them as nesting blocks and putting them inside eachother just as they were meant to be. Nobody taught him how to do this, my genious child figured this out all on his own. He's so freaking smart! He's not really getting them right according to their size but it's a work in progress.

These blocks are amazing! I love them just about as much as he does. In our house they work as somewhat as a peacemaker. Alex is getting over his cold and double whammy ear infection and just about the time we thought we were getting out sweet little boy back, another tooth started poking it's way through. So, fussiness is his mantra, again. But lately it seems, all we have to do is pull out the blocks and he's happy happy :) We stack them, he knocks them over. He stacks them, we knock them over. We all laugh and giggle and do it all over again. I must say Alex is at such a fun age right now, I truly enjoy watching him as he plays.  He is figuring things out, how things work, what happens when he does something and so on and so on. He's growing so fast and his life is already starting to "flash" before our eyes. I want to cherish these days but it would be much easier to accomplish if he would just slow down.
